Data center

Today, scientific research is almost impossible without the help of computer technology. Data center is responsible for maintenance of computer network, servers and other IT equipment (PCs, printers, etc.) Except maintenance even more important role of Data center is development of software applications. Institute software applications are developed and maintained using various programming languages and tools, such as PL/SQL, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, C++, C. Also one of the role of center is installation, integration and maintenance of measuring and other electronics systems on Institute and on research vessels.

  • Management and development of oceanographic databases
  • Development and maintenance of the database web interface
  • Web – based data visualisations and management
  • Development and maintenance of real-time data-collection applications with automatic database insertation
  • Development and maintenance of automatic oceanographic data measuring systems
  • Instalation and integration of measurement and other electronic systems (communication, navigation, etc.) on research vessels
  • Maintenance and development of Geographic Information Systems
 (GIS)
  • Maintenance of IT equipment (LAN, servers, PCs, printers, etc.)

 

Servers

Servers

Servers are housed in a specially adapted system room. The room is air conditioned, with double-antistatic floor. The center of the Institute’s Local Area Network is also set up there. In the System room there are also:

  • mail and static web page server
  • dynamic web page server
  • database server (production)
  • database server (development)
  • numeric models server (production)
  • numeric models server (development)
  • server for high-frequency radars for measuring surface currents
  • 9 network switches and a network router
  • 3 high capacity uninterruptible power supplies (UPS) with network interfaces
  • keyboard, mouse and monitor switch (KVM switch), and keyboard, mouse and a monitor

Local Area Network of the Institute is designed for about 200 computers (currently active around 120 and about 30 printers) and extends into three Institute buildings. Apart from the System room, there is also a communications equipment cabinet on the ground floor of the main building of the Institute.
