Računalni programi: SettlingVel

SettlingVel – The program calculated settling velocity of spherical particles and nine other geometric shapes of particles that are within the appropriate Reynolds number. Dimensions of particles can be generated with random numbers from the set of statistical distributions (Uniform, Normal, Log-Normal, Exponential, Weibull and Empirical). The generated data can be displayed graphically and saved as a text file.
The method of calculating the settling velocity is based on the works:

Application SettlingVel:

Setvalue forthe density ofparticles.
2. Set values ​​of temperature and salinity of fluid (water or sea) in which particles sink. Density and (dynamic) viscosity of the fluid is automatically calculated.
3. Enter the diameter of spherical particles. Settling velocity and diameter of sieved particles (see Le Roux works) are automatically calculated. By entering particles settling velocity its diameter is obtained or diameter of the particles can be obtained by entering its settling velocity.
4. Settling velocity can be calculated for non-spherical particles. Reynolds number must be within certain limits, or a program error occurs. Lengths of three orthogonal axes of non-spherical particles are entered by typing or by sliders.
5. The size of spherical and non-spherical particles can be defined as random numbers from statistical distributions.

51-2. Select and enter values ​​of the parameters of statistical distributions (uniform, normal, log-normal, exponential, Weibull, empirical).
51-3. The obtained results can be saved (Save …) or by right-clicking to open a menu by which data can be copied and transferred as a text in another application (Excel, Word). Selecting Graph … you can show the frequency histogram of diameter, settling velocity or particle mass.

Choice of Empirical distributions opens the form in which to enter the cumulative relative frequency for interval values ​​of particle diameter. The data in the row must be separated by at least one blank space. From the empirical cumulative distributions could be generated random particle diameter of which is calculated settling velocity and mass of particles. The obtained results can be saved as a text file or copied and transferred directly into Excel or Word (or another text editor).

Choice of distribution opens the field for entering the distribution parameters for the three orthogonal axes of non-spherical particles. The choice of particle shape has previously been made in the main form.
52-2. Settling velocity and the mass calculated from randomly generated value for long, short and medium length particles. The obtained data can be saved (as a text file) and displayed as histograms.
