Some aspects of reproductive biology of bogue (Boops boops L., Pisces Sparidae) from the mid-Adriatic channels

Abstract

       Some aspects of reproductive biology of bogue popula­tion inhabiting the mid-Adriatic Dalmatian channels were studied. Sex-ratio varies with season and body length of fish, males of smaller length dominating during maturation period. Maturation lasts from December to May and spawning occurs from March to June, the peak in May. Minimum length at onset of the first maturity is 12.45 cm for males and 14.25 cm for females. A significantly higher proportion of males mature at smaller sizes and earlier in the reproductive sea­son. Migration are associated with sexual cycle and hidrography of the environment.
